Artist / Artisan
Katka Hubacek
I am a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada in Scenography and have a Costume Studies Diploma from Dalhousie University. I worked as a freelance Set & Costume designer in theatre, film and commercials for over 10 years. In 2008 I started craft shows with recycled plush toys and leather bags. Now with two children, I am creating art that is more personal to me. Stemming from my love of theatre and storytelling, my work is highly narrative.
Recurring motifs I find myself exploring are vulnerability and feelings of loneliness through a fairy tale facade. I generally explore these through a central character: a little girl or young woman. My paintings are watercolour, acrylic or oil. My three dimensional pieces are a combination of sculpture, wire work, embroidery, sewing etc.
