Born in Toronto, the artist Kylie Sandford currently lives and works in the Eastern Townships, Québec. Kylie completed her BFA at Concordia University, Montreal, which included studies in Nîmes, France. Her recent awards include grant funding with the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec (CALQ), First prize for Rush with Rêves d'automne, Baie St Paul, Qc., as well as Honorable mention for The pool with the Society of Canadian Artists in Toronto. With the use of traditional oil painting techniques, she explores the subtleties of light by using transparent layers of colour for resonance and depth in her landscapes. “Painting these natural environments with oil is the way for me to communicate my emotional response to nature's striking moments of complex and simple beauty. My oil paintings depict my deep love of the land and water that surrounds me. I want to capture, record and illuminate their presence with the meditative process of painting, for them to serve as reminders of the joys of experiencing nature and the importance of its conservation.” She is a professional member of the Le Regroupement des Artistes en Arts Visuels du Québec (RAAV), the Conseil des Métiers d'Arts du Québec (CMAQ) and Culture Montérégie. Her work can be found in private collections in Canada, the US, Europe and Australia.
