GENEVIÈVE ROY - HABITATS IMAGINAIRES

From July 31 to August 31, 2025.

"Habitats imaginaires" unfolds in four chapters (Dioramas, Pavilions, Interior Worksites, and Imaginary Cities), through various techniques and conceptual approaches. All share a common thread: the projection of polymorphic worlds that reflect a desire to explore the spaces we inhabit and how we build and anchor ourselves within them.

Throughout the body of work, the imagery of the construction site is omnipresent. Tied to notions of incompleteness and constant transformation, it serves as a dual metaphor: a physical, urban, tangible space that connects us to the world, and an emotional, internal, mental space that speaks to our individual construction.

The works — whether digital, three-dimensional, or pictorial — resemble layered frescoes, evoking the fragmented view of city life where slivers of real and imagined territories intersect, offering unique perspectives on the world and how we inhabit it. This creative process is driven by the desire to reconstruct places and events as authentically as possible, while preserving a perceptual and intellectual enigma that invites viewers to engage and connect with their own inner landscapes.

- Opening on Sunday, August 3 at 2 p.m.

Originally from Quebec City, Geneviève Roy now lives and works in Montreal. A trained architect, she also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University. In 2010, she left her first career in architecture to combine her artistic practice with teaching interior design at Cégep du Vieux Montréal. A Master’s degree in Visual and Media Arts (UQAM, 2023) allowed her to deepen her research on the relationship between humans and the built environment. A recipient of Canada Council for the Arts grants, Roy has participated in several international residencies in countries including Italy, Germany, France, and the United States. Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in Canada and abroad.
